About Us

At Yellow Star, we understand that choosing a nursery can be daunting, but we aim for this important decision to be a positive and straightforward experience for you.

Maddie is the Managing Director of Yellow Star who works closely with families and children during the settling-in process, ensuring both parents and child feel comfortable, safe and happy. Maddie has worked in the childcare sector since 2006 and opened Yellow Star in March 2012. All staff who are employed by Yellow Star have a strong, positive outlook on life and show great enthusiasm and passion to working with children. We have high expectations of what our children achieve within their time at Yellow Star and when the time arrives, they are ready for their next step into school life and the big wide world.

Our prime objective is to provide a safe and stimulating environment where your child can develop, learn, and enjoy new and exciting challenges. We have a wide range of indoor and outdoor learning activities with equipment tailored to specific age ranges. Children have access to an outside area which will provide them with fresh air, exercise and outdoor play. We also have extracurricular activities which allow the children the freedom to be involved in football, Tiny Mites, yoga classes and signing class. These sessions are included in the nursery fees, so your child still gets to enjoy all the fun activities and feels a sense of inclusion experiencing these activities with their peers at no additional cost.

We welcome visits from prospective parents and recommend you make an appointment through the Nursery Manager. Please enquire to arrange an appointment on our next Open Day.

“I have never once doubted my decision that Yellow Star was the best place for my children. Maddie and the staff make everyone feel at ease when the children start at nursery and the observations we receive make us smile knowing our child is feeling nurtured and happy. I’m pregnant with my third baby and we’ve already reserved our place.”

“Yellow Star is second to none. Maddie is always so flexible and helpful with our needs and is always understanding. All staff show a welcoming smile, and my child knows them all individually and they know her inside out. The children are given a multitude of activities, outside experiences and not forgetting the amazing food. We can’t get our children to eat half the things Yellow Star do! One of my daughters now attends primary school and it is evident how much hard work Yellow Star put in to make sure her education excelled, and she was ready for the next chapter in her education.

I have no hesitations in recommending Yellow Star and I know that all the families at Yellow Star would say the same. If you’re lucky enough to get a space at Yellow Star, grab it with both hands, you won’t regret it!”

“Yellow Star nursery is like a family to me. I made so many friends, had lovely teachers and learnt so many things that I still remember today. My favourite activities to do were going on walks because we got to do great things like going to the park, visiting the library, exploring the fire station, adventures to the train station, the Wheathampstead farm animals and the river. Yellow Star supported me through hard times I went through and made me feel happy, safe and welcome every day. Last but not least, the food was delicious. My favourite was always the halloumi curry and the toad in the hole.”

“Nursery is the best, I get to play with my friends, go outside, play on scooters, go in the sandpit and have colour discos. I love Tiny Mites and football! I learnt to write my name and ALLLL of the alphabet. I love my teachers and I show them photos from my holiday. I really like it when my teachers take photos of me and send them to my Mummy because I get to see them when I’m at home and show my brother. My brother came to this nursery and loves picking me up so he can come in!”
