Active Learning

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a statutory framework which sets the standards for learning, development, and care for children from birth to five years.

Whilst children are at Yellow Star they will learn through a range of activities and staff will ensure that this is in a safe, secure, and happy environment. The Nursery staff work closely with the parents building a partnership which encourages them to be more involved in their child’s care and development. This also reassures them that their children are receiving the best possible care.

Staff observe the children throughout the day and plan activities that will encourage them in their development. We use Tapestry, which is an online learning journal which is secure and easy to use and helps Yellow Star staff document the amazing journey your little one is on. Each child will have at least one observation per week which can also include videos. We also try and document all our outside adventures and fun outings so parents can see where their child has been and revisit these places with them.

Using Tapestry means you, as a family, can share special moments and celebrations and upload your own observations, then your child can show us on the iPads when at nursery, if they wish to. It helps build a very special journal of your child’s nursery experiences and their journey throughout their early years. You will be given an electronic copy of your childs journal when graduating Yellow Star that you can then keep forever.
